Michigan’s Children announces the loss of Michele Corey

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the staff at Michigan’s Children, and with immense sadness, I reach out to you today to announce the passing of Michele Corey, our Vice President for Programs. Michigan has lost a valiant champion for our state’s children, youth and families, and we have lost a dear friend and colleague.

Michele, 53, spent nearly a quarter century of her life with Michigan’s Children, building up this organization and fighting to ensure that the voices of the most marginalized children and youth among us, and families beset by life’s greatest challenges, were elevated and heard by Michigan policymakers. Her contributions to improvements in our state’s public policies on child welfare and numerous other issues have been profound. Equally important has been her service as a role model to countless emerging child advocates and other professionals in Michigan and across the country.

Michele was an amazing, genuine human being who believed in people and in their inherent goodness. As we in the advocacy community continue to mourn her in the days ahead and for some time to come, please join us in keeping her family – husband, Tom, children, Madonna, Jacob, Andrew, Sarah, and two grandchildren – in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Matt Gillard, President & CEO,
Michigan’s Children
