Racial/Ethnic Categories
Michigan’s Children understands the deep complexities associated with racial and ethnic categorization and identification. Unfortunately, these complexities are difficult to capture in the data collection process, though data collection is a key component to evaluating outcomes and improvements in programs and services for children and families. To this end, Michigan’s Children utilizes the racial/ethnic categories identified by the U.S. Census Bureau, as this type of data is most frequently collected and assists in identifying disparities between racial/ethnic groups, even if these categories are slightly flawed.
