Michigan's Children in the news...

Preschool a ‘no-brainer’ for kids and taxpayers
April 26, 2012 | The Detroit News
Are you surprised to hear that taxpayers will save $100,000 for every Detroit child who is kindergarten-ready?

That $100,000 saves taxpayer dollars not spent on later frills, such as extra schooling, special education, welfare and meals eaten in prison.

"It seems like a no-brainer, doesn't it?" says Jack Kresnak, CEO of Michigan's Children, a child advocacy organization that lobbies on behalf of the preschool set.

Not in these parsimonious times when every taxpayer dollar spent first requires a cost/benefit analysis. Although the social benefits of preschool have been documented for decades, the message isn't being matched by dollars.
